Faces took on White Ensign in their first fixture since the management shake up. 7 players from the reserves stepped up to replace 7 outgoing first team players. I (Scott Bird) also took over for my first game in charge of the first team.
The game itself was in doubt as atrocious conditions continued right up to the first whistle. The atmosphere before the game was really good and the boys were pumped and ready to go. Faces made a bright start and were forcing the pace early on. With the wind a…

Faces made the trip to Rayleigh with almost an unchanged side from the week before. The exception being James Danderson who donned the gloves in between the sticks after the late withdrawal of Luke Roust through injury/hangover. Manager Gareth Collins decided to go with the same formation of 4-5-1 in an effort to pack the midfield and stifle the opposition.
The opening exchanges were fairly even with neither side taking a grip on the game, both guilty of giving possession away cheaply. The firs…

Faces travelled to White Ensign with all change in the team once again with Wayne Power, Daniel Stokes, Ben Halsey and Joe Kelly coming in for Abs Mahmood, Jamie Orr, Phil Maloney & Daniel Redgrave. Faces began the game employing a new 4411 formation and started really well dominating possesion. Chances were being created from the off as the home side were struggling to contain Faces attacking football.
After 10 minutes Faces were rewarded for their impressive start when Daniel Dani broke c…

Faces took on neighbours Frenford Senior looking to end a run of 4 successive home defeats. Manager Gareth Collins was back in charge after another successful stint at the Priory. Changes were made from the outset with Sam Carter, Stuart David & David Day coming in for James Danderson, Damien Yoxall & Ricky Downs who were all missing.
The game began at quick pace with both teams attempting to get a grip on the game. Possession was equally shared for the first half an hour without any re…

Faces entertained Canning Town in only our second home game of the season. It was all change in the team again with 5 changes to last weeks starting line up. Abs Mahmood, Jamie Orr, Gary Bird, Daniel Redgrave and Phil Maloney all came in for starts. Liam Dooley, Paul Kelly, Ben Halsey, Sam Carter & Danny O'Driscoll all missing out. Lads, to let you all know, I have decided to leave the club. I am writing this on here because I dont want every1 to think that jus because I was dropped on saturday, I'm throwing my toys out of the pram and leaving on a whim.
As you all know on saturday I wasn't played due to a 'dip in form' which is fair enough, the reason I have got the hump tho is the way that it was all done and the fact that, in my eyes, noone had the bollocks or the backbone to tell me prior to 5 minutes before kick off.…

Faces entertained Ongar in a bottom of the table clash with both sides knowing that a win would propel them up the table and condemn there opponents to the relegation zone. With Manager Gareth Collins back in rehab, proceedings were taken by Director of Football, Paul Baker & 1st Team Coach, Gary Coxall. Changes were made beforehand with Luke Roust deputising in goal and Billy Swick coming in for his 1st senior game of the season.
The game started in good football conditions on a slick surf…

Faces travelled to Ryan in the Essex Cup with a makeshift squad following Oti's departure to the first team, Jamie Orr working and Greg Reid who was babysitting, all missing. On arrival we were greeted with the usual poor facilities from our hosts, most notably the kids game taking place in the middle of the already cut up pitch when there were other pitches available which beggared belief.
The game got under way with a delayed kick off so the home team could put up their nets and wait for some…

Faces made the short journey to Manford Way hoping to avenge the recent narrow home defeat two weeks previously. Manager Gareth ‘slim’ Collins returned looking fresh following a recent stint in rehab. Jon Wightman and Wayne Wilkinson came into the side at the expense of Dave Day & Stuart David who dropped to the bench.
The game started with the home side flying out of the traps and playing some nice football on a big pitch. Faces were being ran ragged in the open exchanges and it was no was…

Faces travelled to league leaders Epping in their first fixture in 4 weeks. It was all change in the team again as Paul Kelly, Ben Halsey, Billy Swick & Abs Mahmood all came in for their first starts of the season. The game began and defences were definitely on top for both sides. Faces edged the possession in the first half hour and were playing the better football but the hosts looked dangerous from set pieces with good delivery and some big lumps in their side!
The home side had the firs…

Faces took on Manford Way at home hoping to improve on last weeks disappointing performance. With manager Gareth Collins going into rehab, coach Gary Coxall & Reserve team manager Scott Bird took over the reigns. Plenty of changes were made in an attempt to stop the rot with James "not enjoying my football" Danderson, Matt Bird and Danny O 'Driscoll all returning to starting line up.
Some home truths were exchanged in the dressing room after last weeks lacklustre performance and this seemed…

Faces travelled to White Ensign for their first away fixture of the league campaign looking to build on last weeks cup win. Jon Wightman and Oti Ikomi came into the side to replace Glen Shurety & Matt Bird who was away on international duty. The game began at a slow pace in unseasonably hot temperatures and neither side were really getting a foothold in the game. After 10 minutes a mistake in the the Faces defence allowed the home side to take the lead out of the blue with their first attack…

The 1st team made the short journey to undesirable Walthamstow to face opponents Castle Utd in the first round of the East Ham Memorial Cup. Coincidentally, the same opponents were faced in the first round the previous season, with Castle running out 2-1 winners. With that in mind the lads knew that a tough afternoon was in store.
Changes on and off the field were made prior to the game. Gaffer Gareth Collins was granted the week off by Director of Football, Paul Baker, who took proceedings joi…

The reserves made the short journey to Mountnessing in their first away fixture of the season. A glance at our local rivals team sheet made interesting reading with the addition of 5 first team players which was good motivation for the lads to see that the opposition didn't think they could beat us with their usual reserve side.
Joe Gadsdon replaced the absent Phil Maloney who was having afternoon tea with his parents. The start was delayed by the referee wanting to fill every hole on what must…

The reserves welcomed defending champions Harold Wood in their first fixture of the 2009/10 season. Summer signings Oti Ikombi, Daniel Dani (So good they named him twice!) and Wayne Wilkinson all made their debuts after impressing in pre-season.
The game began in blustery conditions at a furious pace with both teams competing well and matching each other for effort and commitment. Defenders were certainly on top in the opening stages with neither team really creating any chances.

Faces took on champions Kelvedon Hatch in their final fixture of the season knowing only a win would give them any hope of securing promotion.
Some emotional shit was spurted out by me in the dressing before the game and the boys were charged up and ready to go. The game began at a ferocious pace with both sides playing some lovely stuff but also producing some crunching tackles.
Faces began to carve out chances, Jon Wightman and Liam Dooley coming close to opening the scoring. The boys were c…

Faces travelled to Bas Vegas knowing that a win would put them in control of their own destiny and promotion.
Faces started brightly with Basildon unable to cope with the tempo. All the hard work paid off when Greg Blake rolled the ball into Craig Critchell who rolled the defender and had a pop from 20 yards which somehow went in....1-0 to Faces.
Faces continued dominating and nearly scored again when Craig Critchell was put through by Paul Kelly and his shot beat the keeper but cannoned back…
