Match Report 31.10.09: Faces Reserves 0 Canning Town Reserves O

Faces entertained Canning Town in only our second home game of the season. It was all change in the team again with 5 changes to last weeks starting line up. Abs Mahmood, Jamie Orr, Gary Bird, Daniel Redgrave and Phil Maloney all came in for starts. Liam Dooley, Paul Kelly, Ben Halsey, Sam Carter & Danny O'Driscoll all missing out. Faces also welcomed new signing Joe Kelly to the club, who started on the bench.

The game began in lively fashion as always with both teams looking to knock the ball about. Defences were certainly on top and chances were hard to come by for both teams. Faces probably edged the early exchanges without really creating any worthwhile chances of note.

Faces kept knocking at the door but just could not breakdown the away sides defence and the extra man they were playing in midfield was becoming a problem. Canning Town started to build some pressure of the own with a series of set pieces. The last 5 minutes of the half Faces became ragged and the away side were on top. Happy to get into half time 0-0 to re-organise.

The half time team talk was not a pleasant experience as I felt the attitude of the team was not as it should be and we had allowed the visitors to gain the momentum in the game. A bold change of shape to the team was in order and we changed to 3 at the back, the unfortunate Daniel Redgrave who had played well was replaced by new signing Joe Kelly.

The second half began and Faces immediately looked more comfortable with the new attacking formation. We began to dominate in midfield with Joe Kelly, making an impressive debut, looking to get on the ball as much as possible. The away side were struggling to cope with us now and were resorting to long balls as we finally began to get on top. Chances were still at a premium with Jon Wightman and Daniel Dani both unlucky after creating chances on their own.

Defences were still well on top with Wayne Wilikinson, Gary Bird and Craig Critchell all having impressive games. Faces were dominating possession in their opponents half but some resolute defending from the away side made it extremely difficult for us to break them down. The key moment in the game came when Canning Town had a rare second half attack which led to a corner. A free header in the box was headed goalwards and Keeper Shaun Crocker some how clawed the ball from the goal line when a goal looked the only outcome, a truly wonderful saved to keep the scores level.

Faces pressed until then end trying to find the winner but Canning Town held on to leave the final score 0-0.

Star Man: Shaun Crocker - World class saved and clean sheet earned a point

Managers Verdict: Probably just shaded it on the second half performance but both teams defended well
